Six people are dead and at least 26 injured including a child as police search for a shooter in Highland Park, Illinois during Fourth Of July festivities as the parade was three-quarters in around 10:14 a.m., CBS reports.
Zoe Pawelczak tells CNN she witnessed several victims killed after a barrage of shots rang out along the parade route.
The shooter fired the fatal shots from a rooftop using a high-powered rifle that he left at the scene. He accessed the building with a nearby ladder.
Many victims died at the scene and a majority of those who were transported to a local hospital was listed in critical condition.
The suspect is currently at large and is described as a white male with dark hair ranging from 18-20 years of age.
Police say the FBI has been brought in as well as SWAT, State Police, and multiple law enforcement agencies, according to Chris Covelli of the major crimes task force.
A reunification area was established at the police station for individuals to reunite with loved ones.
This is still an active investigation and developing story.
Highland Park, Illinois police say the shooting suspect is a white 18-20 year-old male with longer black hair, a small build, and wearing a white or blue t-shirt.
