The Biden administration has decided to upgrade its travel advisory for India to a ban as COVID-19 in the country spreads out of control, according to Fox News.

Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, announced on Friday that the decision was made on the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Psaki later told reporters, “The administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately. The policy will be implemented in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India.”

The policy is said to take effect on May 4th.

President Biden has been critical of travel bans implemented by former President Donald Trump as a tool to fight the spread of COVID-19.
