El Chapo's Wife Pleads Guilty To Federal Drug Trafficking Charges

Emma Coronel Aispuro, former beauty queen, 31, plead guilty thursday to drug trafficking and money laundering charges that are related to her husband’s El Chapos narcotic empire. Aispuro entered her plea in federal court in Washington two years after El Chapo “Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera” was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 more years for partaking in a continuing criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and firearm charges as the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. El Chapo is currently being held in Colorado’s Supermax prison. A witness in El Chapos trial testified that Aispuro worked together with others to organize El Chapos escape from prison in Mexico. The Sinaloa Cartel also known as the C.D.S. was established in the late 1980’s as a drug trafficking, money laundering, and organized crime syndicate. 

Aispuro wore a green prison uniform with a white face covering on Thursday when she told the U.S District Judge Rudolph Contreras that she “understands and accepts her plea agreement”. Aispuro pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to distribute illegal drugs, conspiring Lo to launder money and engaging in financial dealings with the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Aispuro was arrested back in February at Dulles International Airport, on interna
