On Friday, June 24th, there will be a hearing regarding the legal change in name and gender for Elon Musk’s daughter, Vivian.

Not long after she turned 18, Vivian officially submitted a petition for the changes to be made and for the issuance of a new birth certificate.

She is asking to have her name changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson, taking the maiden name of her mother, Justine Musk, who was married to Elon Musk from 2000 to 2008. The couple had twins (including Vivian) and triplets while together.

The teenager filed the petition in LA County, and in addition to correcting her gender identity, she has revealed that part of the reason behind the name change has to do with the relationship she has with her father.

In her description within the court documents, she lists the reasons as, “Gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

Neither Vivian nor her father has publicly spoken about their strained relationship, but many speculate that it could be partly because of Musk’s former, controversial Tweets or possible corresponding opinions he may have regarding the trans community.

In July 2020, Musk tweeted that “Pronouns suck,” and in December of the same year, he wrote, “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”

These comments received major backlash. Even the mother of his two youngest children, famous singer and songwriter, Grimes, sent a Tweet back to his original comment saying, “I love you but please turn off ur phone or give me a [call]. I cannot support hate. Please stop this. I know this isn’t your heart.”

As Vivian awaits the court hearing, plenty of people have shared their support, including her mother, Justine, who shared a heart-warming conversation between the two of them on Twitter.
