Jeremiah Jones, 22, shot his ex-girlfriend's 9-year-old daughter in the head killing her Monday night around 9:54 p.m., at an apartment at 404 Oxford St., near E. 4th Street in Houston, ABC reports.
The child was identified as Khylie Sorrells. She was transported to a local hospital where she died. Sorrells was watching television with her mom just before the shooting.
Police say that there was a domestic dispute involving Khylie’s mother Brittany Sorrells and that Jones shot her twice in the arm. She was transported to the hospital.
Khylie was a student and member of HPD's Police Activities League (PAL) program, HPD Chief Troy Finner said in a statement.
Jones was taken into custody in the parking lot in the 22300 block of Imperial Valley Drive, according to Houston police.
Court documents show that Jones had a lengthy criminal history that includes evading arrest, and making terroristic threats.
A GoFundMe has been set up for funeral arrangements.
