Diamond Alvarez,15, was shot at 22 times and died while walking her dog in SW Houston on Tuesday night around 9;30 p.m. near 15400 Park Manor, ABC 13 reports.

Alvarez’s family recalled hearing multiple gunshots and shortly after the family's dog named Peanut came home with blood on it’s dog collar. According to the report, her mother Anna Machado arrived at the scene of the neighborhood green space where she saw Diamond injured and attempted to perform CPR but was unable to bring her back.  Machado told her daughter that she loved her as she died.

Police are going house to house to retrieve surveillance videos to get answers on a dark vehicle that was seen fleeing from the scene in a possible drive by.

Friends showed up for a vigil for the late teen.

"I mean, the person that did that to her was very cold hearted," said Jovanna Martinez, a close family friend and neighbor. "It's not right. She was a happy person, joyful. Her family loved her a lot. She had a lot of people that loved her, she still will too. She will forever live in everybody's heart. I don't think it's something people will get over really easy."

"Come forward. Speak up," Machado said, "and whoever did it, (they're) cowards. She didn't deserve (this). She didn't deserve none of this."
