Jennifer Hudson Becomes Third African-American to Achieve EGOT Status

As of yesterday, Jennifer Hudson has achieved EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, & Tony) status. Hudson was a co-producer in A Strange Loop, which won a Tony for best musical, making her the 17th person to accomplish this feat. 

According to Billboard, the multi-talented singer is currently forty years and nine months old, making her the third-youngest to claim EGOT status; only John Legend and Robert Lopez were younger than Hudson when they achieved their EGOT. This feat has placed her in the company of Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend, as she is the third African-American EGOT.

In 2007, Hudson won an Oscar for best-supporting actress in her movie, Dreamgirls. Two years later, she received a Grammy for her self-titled debut studio album. In 2021, was the executive producer of Baba Yaga, which won a Daytime Emmy for outstanding interactive media for a daytime program. After being snubbed at the Tony’s for her role in The Color Purple but was avenged this year.
