A woman and her two dogs were killed after being struck by lightning in Pico Rivera, California Wednesday morning around 8:50 a.m., Fox 11 reports.

An investigation is underway and homicide detectives were on the scene to confirm the cause of death. Officials said the woman was walking with her dog.

The city manager Steve Carmona says all outdoor activities have been canceled due to recent and multiple lightning strikes in the area. The closures are expected to last until the storms pass.

"We should all be cautious with this activity that's in the area," Carmona said. "We want everybody to be careful. There's a lot of instability in the air. Just be careful and do your best to stay indoors at this time."
