Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Of The House leader Nancy Pelosi, was attacked with a hammer Friday morning around 2:20 a.m. at the couple's San Francisco home. Capitol Police responded to the home while conducting a wellness check.

Pelosi, 82 was violently attacked in front of police, resulting in him being transported to a local hospital where he was taken into surgery and suffered non-life threatening injuries, CNN.

The suspect has been identified as David DePape, 42, according to Chief William Scott of the San Francisco Police Department. During the attack, the intruder asked “where is Nancy? She was not home at the time and was away on business.

"When the officers arrived on scene, they encountered an adult male and Mr. Pelosi's husband, Paul," Scott said. "Our officers observed Mr. Pelosi and the suspect both holding a hammer. The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup, and rendered medical aid."

As of now, police are investigating many of DePape’s disturbing social media posts that show many conspiracy theories from George Floyd, the Covid-19 vaccine, and the 2020 election.

DePape will be charged and booked with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, verbal and several other additional felonies, according to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.

Many GOP leaders spoke out after the attack.
