Deborah Samuel a Nigerian Christian student in Sokoto State died Thursday after she was beaten and set fire to over allegedly making a blasphemous social media post in a WhatsApp chat group against the Prophet Muhammad.

Out of frustration with Muslim students talking about Islamic topics in the group Samuel began criticizing the Prophet Muhammad to the point that she angered many in the group.

The school deployed security to protect Samuel, but they were quickly overpowered by the men and a large crowd who threw old tires, rocks, and whatever they could find as she lay face down in the debris.

Two male Muslim students boasted on social media about the killing that took place at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State. One of the men spoke of how he lit the match that caused her body to burn as he held up the matchbox

The brutal massacre of Samuel’s angered many Nigerians who condemned killing in the name of religion.

The two men have since been arrested and the school has been shut down until further notice.
