Steven Alexander Stewart Steven Alexander Stewart survived the shooting and was arrested. He has been charged with armed robbery and murder.
At a North Carolina charter school, a basketball coach and teacher were shot during a gun fight with a drug cartel. They were attacked after a home invasion took place in a mobile park.
The victims were Barney Dale Harris and Alonso Beltran Lara, who both worked at Union Academy Charter School. As authorities fled to the crime scene they saw that Harris died at the scene while Lara needed to be taken quickly to the hospital. She, unfortunately, didn't make it, dying at the hospital due to the horrific injuries she sustained after being attacked.
Union Academy Charter School released a statement saying, "Union Academy’s first priority is caring for and protecting our students and staff. Earlier today, law enforcement released details about last week's death of one of our teachers, Barney Dale Harris II. The Union Academy family was shocked and deserted to hear the information and will continue to focus on supporting our students and families. Any questions about the investigation should be directed to law enforcement.”
According to the detectives, Harris and Lara were both reportedly involved in two separate criminal operations. The sheriff stated that Laura ran drugs for the Sinaloa New Generation Cartel and that the trailer they were at was apparently a stash house.
It’s alleged that the two and a group of others were at the home to steal drugs and money which later led to the shoot-out that killed them. Detectives found 1.2 kg of cocaine, five guns, and about $7000 in cash during their investigation.
Authorities were able to connect Steven Alexander Stewart Jr. to the crimes committed. They arrested and charged him with first-degree burglary. They followed that charge up with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Cops were also able to find two vehicles that happened to be involved in the incident too.
