One person was stabbed to death and four others in their 20’s were also critically injured after a violent incident Saturday around noon while a group was tubing for fun at the Apple River in the town of Somerset, according to ABC World News.

The Apple River is located near the Wisconsin-Minnesota border, about 35 miles east of Minneapolis.

The victim was identified as a 17-year-old teen from Minnesota. His name was not released due to his age. One of the remaining four victims was a female. Two victims were transported to a local hospital from the hard rock reach area.

A 52-year-old man is in custody after fleeing the scene and after a witness shared a photo they took of the suspect with police, according to St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson who spoke with the press calling the scene chaotic and scary.

"I'm sure that anybody that witnessed it will never forget it," he told reporters during a press briefing Saturday. "It is a tragedy."

An investigation is underway to locate the knife that was used and authorities are working to learn what the motive was.

The suspect is being held at the Saint Croix County Jail as charges are pending. There hasn't been a stabbing incident in over 15 years, according to Knudson.
