After the completion of Mission Impossible 8,  Tom Cruise and film producer Christopher McQuarrie is planning three follow-ups.  A musical, a new action franchise starter and a film centered on Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder are all in the works.

GQ reported that McQuarrie has been involved in Cruise’s career for years in which he directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible 6 and 7.  McQuarrie also produced and helped write the script for Top Gun Maverick, that's now the highest gross box office film in America, and has topped $1.3 billion worldwide.

At 60 years old, Cruise will also return to reprise his role as Les Grossman, as GQ put it: “Les literally fuck your own face Grossman”.  Cruise wore a fat suit and a beard to portray the vulgar antagonist, in a satirisation of Hollywood producers. Fans have even pointed out a comparison between Weinstein and Les Grossman.  According to Deadline, it’s “unclear if they will create a whole movie around Grossman, or borrow him for inclusion in either of the other vehicles.”

Cruise is also set to star in an action film, which may become a franchise.

As if that's not it the action star also has plans for a musical.  According to Deadline, Cruise has been looking forward to doing another movie musical since his appearance in Rock of Ages. In Rock of Ages, Cruise played a failed musician and performed songs such as "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Wanted Dead or Alive"

Cruise also wants to make a film in space with the help of NASA or SpaceX.
